Campden press release: New global membership for ultra-high net worth private families in Asia Pacific

New membership model, supported by research, responds to family demand

NEW YORK and LONDON, July 19th, 2012 – Campden Wealth has introduced a new global membership for ultra-high net worth private families in Asia Pacific responding to families’ demand to connect with peers on a worldwide basis, the company announced. Campden currently offers separate investment education and networking services, such as proprietary research, private wealth management programs and conferences, to private families worldwide. The international membership is modelled on that offered to families in the U.S. by the Institute for Private Investors (IPI), which Campden acquired last year.

The new membership model responds to feedback expressed by families to engage more frequently and actively with peers around the world, according to Campden.  Families’ increasingly international orientation is supported by both Campden and IPI research.

For example, in this year’s IPI Family Performance Tracking® survey, conducted annually, 44% of IPI member families said they planned to increase their holdings in global equities in 2012.  In last year’s survey, families indicated that they had invested nearly a third of their portfolio outside the U.S., and one in five said they had invested 50% or more of their overall portfolio internationally. Campden’s 2011 European Family Office survey indicated that 63% of family offices collaborated with other offices, and the 2011 Asia Pacific Family Office survey highlighted that more than 50% of family offices co-invested with other offices.

“Offering the comprehensive membership model on a global basis is based on requests by the families and is the next step in our evolution,” said John Pettifor, Campden CEO.  “Of course, families still can opt for individual services.  But the all-inclusive membership helps us serve families better internationally, by facilitating the sharing and exchange of investment information and intelligence worldwide.  No matter where they’re based, in Asia, Europe or the US, sophisticated family investors are viewing their portfolios from an international perspective and are interested in opportunities around the world.”

The membership program brings together IPI private investors and Campden families to participate more closely in a community of peers with real global reach, both in person and online via Memberlink®.

Ming Wong joins Campden as Regional Director - Asia-Pacific, based in Hong Kong, to lead the company's membership and business development in Asia and Australia. His work experience includes three years establishing a Singapore family office, where he served as Managing Director and chair of the investment committee, following a 20 year investment banking career that spanned private equity, mergers and acquisition advisory, capital markets and risk management in Asia and the United States.

More recently, Wong worked as an independent advisor to family offices and foundations in alternative investments and impact investing. He is active in the social finance and innovation space; in addition to his role as co-founder and vice chair of Social Investors Club in Hong Kong, he serves as co-convener of EngageHK, a nonprofit initiative promoting collaboration to optimize the flow of ideas and capital for a sustainable future, and an advisory council member of Impact Investing Policy Collaborative.

Wong joins Campden following the recruitment of Marta Drummond in November who is spearheading Campden's membership initiative in Europe and the Middle East.

“We are delighted to welcome Ming on board with us to drive this highly strategic membership effort,” said Dominic Samuelson, managing director of Campden Wealth.  “He comes to us with a distinguished track record and extensive experience in the international arena as a financial advisor and family office executive. He will be an invaluable addition to Campden."
